Cerebus: You're trying to distract Cerebus with nonsense again...
Flaming Carrot: I am?
Cerebus: But it's not going to work.
Flaming Carrot: No?
-- Church and State Book 2, by Dave Sim and Gerhard (and Bob Burden)

A couple of touching remembrances of Gene Siskel (seen on Windowseat):

  • 'Tell Me the Truest Thing You Know' by Bob Greene [Chicago Tribune]

The obituaries said he was 53. On his best days, he could seem like he was 11 -- overflowing with energy, eager to see everything the world had to offer, sparkling-eyed and boyish and a kid in the best possible sense. He was Mr. Maturity, and he was that delighted kid, all at the same time.

  • Farewell, my friend by Roger Ebert [Chicago Sun-Times]

When he saw a movie he hated, he liked to suggest that filmmakers ask themselves this question: "Is my film more interesting than a documentary of the same actors having lunch together?"

Oh, yeesh: The Thin Red Line, the movie you need a prep course for to Properly Appreciate, won the "Golden Bear" for best feature film this weekend at the Berlin Film Festival.

By request, I'm trying out a normal-size font for quotes rather than one size smaller than normal. Better? Worse?

That's all the time I have today. Skipping Wednesday; come back Thursday!
