Water Supply in N.Va. Possibly Contaminated [Washington Post]

Fairfax County officials are asking residents to boil and conserve water after overnight power failures at three treatment plants have left supplies "critically low" and possibly contaminated.

The announcement from the Fairfax County Water Authority, made shortly before 5 a.m., affects approximately 1.2 million retail and wholesale customers...

...It could be 48 to 72 hours before full service is restored, officials said.

So our power only flickered occasionally, and precipitation incursions into the house were manageable, but now when it's sunny and pleasantly windy outside, we'll have no running water for the next two days. Sigh.

I guess that's not so bad for a hurricane/tropical storm though.
