I have no inside information, but I get the strong feeling that Garry Trudeau is gearing up to kill a Doonesbury cast member. Always a risky thing to do, but authors sometimes write their best stories about dead/dying characters.

I was thinking so, too, as I read the strip. If he stays on the same storyline next week, I think you're on to something. Of course, how many US papers would have the guts to print a strip where a character dies mid-sentence in a mortar/RPG attach? It would be an effective way to attach a recognizable name (even a comic-strip name) to the daily death toll accumulating in Iraq.
