permlink Taxation Without Representation Field

Best idea I've heard all week -- the naming rights for the DC baseball park are up for bid, and a group of citizens wants it to be:

Taxation Without Representation Field at RFK Stadium
"We are delighted that baseball is returning to DC, and we hope to bring another hallowed American tradition to our city - democracy," said John Hlinko, co-founder of the group. "We've gone two centuries without Congressional representation, and I think we're all getting tired of ‘wait ‘til next year.'"
They're just asking for pledges right now; they won't ask people to make good on it unless/until the bid gets high enough to be accepted.

Of course, the media will probably just call it "TWR Field" anyway, but: I love it. permlink     1 comment(s)
I wonder if it's the same group that tried to have "Taxation Without Representation" as the official slogan on D.C. license plates a few years back.

It would be nice if more people realized the position D.C. folks are in, paying the same taxes as everyone else but having no congressman or senator with a vote.

I say either make it a state (it wouldn't be the smallest, population-wise), give them representation, or (an intriguing idea) make the District a tax-free zone, perhaps stimulating business etc. in the area.
