permlink Gay Marriage

Pretty good collection: 12 Reasons Gay Marriage will Ruin Society
Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people cannot get legally married because the world needs more children. [Also, marriages which voluntarily don't produce children should be revoked. - seb]

Obviously gay parents will raise gay children because straight parents only raise straight children.

Straight marriage will be less meaningful, since Britney Spears's 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.

Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and it hasn't changed at all: women are property, Blacks can't marry Whites, and divorce is illegal.

Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people makes you tall.

Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage license.

Children can never succeed without both male and female role models at home. That's why single parents are forbidden to raise children.
As long as we're taking away rights, I'd like to ask Mr. Bush if it's OK for gay people to still own property or, say, be licensed to practice medicine. Because if one was your doctor, you might get some gay on you!</sarcasm>

Republicans are becoming the Party of Constitutional Tampering; Bush favors at least five amendments to it (maybe even seven if you believe the comment thread). The Constitution should not be treated as a rough draft. permlink     2 comment(s)
"Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people makes you tall."—— I like this one! It sort of takes the Lamarkian rather than the Darwinian approach to evolution. Darwin was a very bad man. Very bad.

Why should I be forced to accept this perverse behavior as normal. You can do what you want in your own home.No one is restricting you from living with whatever adult you have made a commitment to.Now just being silent has become a form of consent.Do what you want in private.Dont impose it on me.Dont adopt children or subject them to your personal problem of sexual disorientation. If being homosexual was like being short or tall, this genetic anomaly would have vanished a long time ago. DUH!!

permlink programming links

genehack snagged a link from me for a collection of programming resources for a class. Some of the other links he has are worth snagging back, so: permlink

permlink Panther

I finally upgraded my main machine to MacOS X Panther this weekend. Most of the changes are pretty subtle, but I can tell a slight speed difference, and some little annoyances have gone away:
  • In Safari, loading an image by itself gives you the dimensions (e.g. 800x600) in the title bar. Before, I'd have to open up a graphics editor or open up Mozilla or some such to get that information. (It still doesn't appear when you Get Info in the Finder, though... Windows is still smarter there.)
  • Battery life seems to have improved on my 12" PowerBook.
  • The Network control panel is the nicest network-status indicator I've ever seen on any OS. Have it open when you wake your computer up, and see the English-language explanations for the different states it goes through as it connects to the network. Sweet.
