Sweet Honey, minus 1I've seen Sweet Honey in the Rock twice in my life, and enjoyed myself immensely both times. Also, BlueLine does a Sweet Honey tune called "Wanting Memories". So this caught my eye: founder Bernice Johnson Reagon is leaving the group. Sweet Honey Loses Its Queen Bee [washingtonpost.com] She's been the stalwart as 22 women have passed through Sweet Honey's ranks, coming and going and coming back, raising families and pursuing their "real" careers while singing the stories of their lives part-time. Reagon has sweated blood along the way -- and probably drawn a little, too -- as she's guided the group as its primary songwriter, composer and artistic director. Under that direction, Sweet Honey has gone from a revolving-door quartet to a sextet that's known around the world...30 years is a long time to sing in a group; longer than I knew they'd been around. Good luck to all of them. Slashdot, with standardsCoool. Via Rafe, a nice design project: Retooling Slashdot with Web Standards [A List Apart] |
