Bush limits press at fundraiser
The Note says there's no reason for tonight's Bush fundraiser to be open to pool coverage only. "The Washington Hilton, which has hosted literally hundreds of presidential events, has plenty of space, even with several thousand donors crowding the room. Why should the president of the United States be able to raise $4 million from U.S. citizens with the only press access being subject to control of the president's staff?"

Warren Zevon's still here, and that's great.

Due Aug. 26 via Artemis, the album features contributions from Bruce Springsteen, the Eagles' Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit, Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, Emmylou Harris, Dwight Yoakam, Billy Bob Thornton, Ry Cooder, T-Bone Burnett, Tommy Shaw (Styx), David Lindley, and John Waite.

"I'm writing a lot," the artist told Billboard when he disclosed his illness publicly. "There's nothing like an experience like this to really make you start living that tao day by day, so much depends on how much I'm breathing every day. Fortunately, I have a studio. The studio, as you've heard on the records, is in my apartment. So I'm going to be able to stagger into that thing pretty much when the hearse is idling at the curb."

VH1 filmed the recording sessions for the album and much of Zevon's life since his diagnosis. A documentary about his struggle will air in conjunction with the album's release.

He was also able to attend the birth of his twin grandsons; that's awesome.

Warren Zevon becomes a grandfather [AP Wire]

Singer-songwriter Warren Zevon, who announced last fall that he's dying of lung cancer, became a grandfather twice over when his daughter, Ariel, gave birth to twin boys.

Augustus Warren Zevon-Powell and Maximus Patrick Zevon-Powell were born Thursday at a Los Angeles hospital, said Zevon's publicist, Diana Baron. Their father is Ariel's husband, Ben Powell.

"The best news was that Warren was able to be at the hospital for the babies' birth," Baron said.
