permlink NBC lame

Oh, good gravy. I don't yet have the capability to take screenshots of our TV, so just believe me, I'm not making this up: on tonight's rerun of the LA Law movie, the following text was smeared across the bottom (TiVo's holding it still for me so I can get it right): "Frasier -- Nile and Daphne Wedding Tuesay 9/8c". Is this any way to run a railroad? I guess all the people who can spell their own characters' names and the days of the week have been voted off the production team.

Yeesh. permlink

permlink learning rdf/xml

I have a feeling I'll need to learn this RDF/XML stuff sometime in the next year... this looks like a decent place to start:

The Semantic Web: 1-2-3 [disobey.com, via diveintomark]
I'm new to the Semantic Web. I cobbled this fair piece together in an attempt to collect my thoughts, answered questions, path-of-learning, and requisite bookmarks so that other XML hackers may follow in my footsteps. ... This document is not intended to teach you RDF via my own words, but rather to hand-hold you through the "good" parts of the same journey I took.

permlink Don't interrupt a man when he's talking to his elf!

Sometimes, when I see some bigshot (politician, entertainer or other public figure) acting all delusional and paranoid and (to all appearances) living in a world where simple english words and phrases no longer mean to them what they mean to the rest of us, I harken back to an exchange from Cerebus (from when it was really good, the 1980s) and give them some benefit of the doubt:
Elf:Cerebus:
He doesn't know I exist, you know.
Obviously.
Then why talk about me? He'll only think you're...
...crazy. Cerebus knows that.
But why would you...
Lord Julius always said that insanity was the last line of defence for the master bureaucrat.
I don't get it.
It's hard to get a refund when the salesman is sniffing at your crotch and baying at the moon.
Oh... I get it now.
Insanity is a virtually impregnable gambit... but you have to lay the groundwork early in the game.
From High Society
...but then, when such people so clearly act against their own interests and come up with vastly-dumber-than-usual and/or truly incomprehensible ravings which permanently alienate people who (at least part of the time) used to be on their side... then I begin to believe it's not an act. permlink

permlink USE BY MAY3003

On the bottom of a carton of oats: USE BY MAY3003.

I did get it after a couple of seconds, but initially it was quite the shock. permlink     2 comment(s)
Not much to say, really...just had to comment in support of any Cerebus quotation. Did you get Koyaaniqatsi?

Not yet. It's on my list though; I'm sure I'll get to it in the next several months. :)
