I blink and they say that I'm sad
I hide and they think that I'm mad
-- "A Vacant Stare (The Turtle Cycle)", The Bobs, Coaster, 2000

Yeah, I used that quote two months ago. It was in my head again; sue me.

Hey, how's it goin'. Time's flying right now, it doesn't feel like it's been over a week since I last posted. Work's gotten quite busy, lots of wedding stuff still needs doing, and I just haven't felt the urge to post much. I'm sure my presence here will solidify again post-honeymoon. In the meantime, it may be barely noticeable...

Free Dmitry Sklyarov. Preserving honest people's fair use rights by exposing and disabling laughably poor security measures is a public service, not a crime. Besides, he did it while he wasn't even in the U.S. Adobe even agreed to drop the complaint; can't we let him out of jail now?

US v. Sklyarov FAQ [EFF]

D.M.C.A., the song.

How Bush got Rep. Norwood to make a deal on "Patients' Rights":

  • On Patients' Rights Deal, Bush Scored With a Full-Court Press [Washington Post]
Bush spent several minutes lavishly praising the Georgia Republican for his skill in leading a band of rebels that had outmaneuvered Bush the day before on a patients' bill of rights. But Bush soon dispensed with the pleasantries.

"So now that I've kissed your [rear end], what do I have to do to get a deal?" Bush asked, according to several sources familiar with the meeting.

It was Bush at his best -- self-deprecating, folksy and direct. The meeting spurred a week of intense negotiations that led Bush and Norwood to announce an agreement Wednesday that Democrats and Republicans alike had long thought was not doable.

This is Honor-and-DignityMan? And it's "Bush at his best"? I guess you could say it's "folksy" and "direct", but "crude", "disingenuous" and "insulting" also come to mind.

I actually think his new beard makes him look better, but that doesn't mean I want him to run for President again. Bush versus Gore was uninspiring enough the first time; I think it might induce mass suicide if they make the world go through it again.
