To regular visitors of "News, Pointers & Commentary":
That muted 'flump' you're hearing is the sound of me throwing in this particular towel. Due to the continuing demands of The Job and the constant buzz of my conscience ("gotta post more soon...can't tonight, maybe tomorrow...", repeat and fade), I'll no longer be posting stuff here on anything resembling a regular basis.
In all honesty, it's been many weeks, nay, months since I've been able to give this endeavor the attention I feel it takes to do a good job. And frankly, there are plenty of other sites available that do a much more thorough job of covering interesting stuff than I have been; I recommend adopting them as regular stops on your search for valuable reading:
- Scripting News - software, politics & software politics!
- RobotWisdom WebLog - anything at all (how do you find the time to surf & post so much, Jorn?)
- Salon Magazine - Frequently worthwhile articles, plus Garrison Keillor
- Slashdot - News For Argumentative, Posturing Nerds (hey, that's me...), plus Jon Katz
- The Obscure Store - media, media, media
- Tomalak's Realm - new; quite promising!
I plan to return to the wide wired world of web writing (though perhaps not doing a 'web log' per se) when I can make the time to Do It Right, but right now I just can't do it justice. Look for me to return a few months (2? 6? 18?) down the line, at my very own URL.
If you're interested in re-connecting with me when I resurface, please let me know by sending an e-mail to email@example.com. When I burst onto the scene again with a new attitude, a new mission & renewed vigor, I'll send you an e-mail alerting you so you won't miss a single pulse-pounding installment. [Obligatory disclaimer: I will not use your e-mail address for any other purpose.]
For the curious, concerned and/or the truly masochistic, look for a last Scribble/diary entry here on this site in a couple of weeks, detailing more of what went into this decision, to be called "Reduced"...
As for the rest of ya, see you in the funny papers.
